Gutenbergs, a family owned roof-top restaurant in the heart of Old Riga, snapped up an unbeatable hat-trick of awards “Best Hotel Restaurant Wine List in the Baltic countries”, the “Best Bordeaux Wine List in the Baltic countries”, and the “Best Value Wine List in the Baltic countries”.
Gutenberg’s priorities have not changed – it’s the same classic view over the roofs of the Old Riga and Daugava, it’s the same classic European cuisine, and it’s even grander, but still un-pretentious, not too big and superbly priced wine list that makes hearts of winelovers beat faster.
Just don’t miss “Owner’s cellar” at the back of the wine list! Plenty of off-the-beaten-track rarities, mature vintages, horizontals of cru classe Bordeaux at perfect drinking windows (loads of 2000 Left-Bank Bordeaux here, for example), great domaines and impeccable growers from classic regions.
Our suggestion would be to gather a party large enough to have fun on the roof in the company of owner’s selection of large formats – it’s thrilling to find 2003 Flaccianello Magnum for just €130 (!?), 1987 d’Issan Magnum begging to be drunk, 2004 Jacquesson Champ Cains Magnum, or even a JEROBOAM of 2004 Drappier for just (hold your breath) €280!
