Monte Pacis (meaning “Peace Mountain”) is a foodie and wine destination, a four star hotel, and a functioning monastery located in one of the most exclusive Kauna’s areas - Kaunas Lagoon peninsula.
The place certainly deserves a unique award for collecting so many monastery wines in their cellar, however, it’s not just curiosities that should draw your winelover’s attention to Monte Pacis. It’s obvious from the first look that whoever created the list (Indra Ramanauskiene, Head Sommelier) is obsessed with wine!
Seems like there are no shortcuts and every single entry in this list – from Vincent Couche and other biodynamic champagnes to the most comprehensive dessert wine list we’ve seen in a while – has been carefully thought out. Superb selection, great values, sense of place and owner’s passion – is there anything more to ask?
Sommelier’s Pick: 1975 Château Simon (Sauternes, Barsac, France), 1985 Arnaud de Villeneuve Rivesaltes Ambre Hors d'Age (Languedoc-Roussillon, France) and 2007 Gabbas “Avra” Rosso Dolce Barbagia IGT (Sardinia, Italy)
