Located in Riga’s centre off the main tourist routes, Martinelli family restaurant is a real wine lover’s find – come here to re-learn what nice and cozy actually means, and soak yourself into the most personal and heart-warming wine list with some of the best values in Riga!
Although the list does contain a nicely selected array of classics like Champagne (don’t miss that 2007 Delamotte for just €80), Burgundy (at €109 a bottle that 2011 Clos des Mouche Blanc is a steal), red Bordeaux, the family’s real love affair is Italy!
Make sure you don’t miss that special Sicilian chapter loaded with superbly priced Benanti, Gulfi, Dei Principi di Spodafora, Passopisciaro. We’d also spend some serious time with Martinelli’s section of Tuscany (that 2003 Cepparello does look very appetizing), Piedmont (2008 Cavallotto Bricco Boschis) or Campania, which includes a little vertical of one of Italy’s most long lived reds - Mastroberardino Taurasi Riserva (we’d drink every single bottle of that 1996, since nothing beats a mature Mastroberardino Riserva at €56 a bottle).
Sommelier’s Pick: 2014 Gulfi Carricante Carjcanti (Sicilia, Italy)
